Maui Day Three

Our third morning in Hawaii started off full of excitement. I managed to get us all in coordinating swimsuits and on our way to breakfast at Duo super early for a day of fun at the pool with family. Viola Davis sat right beside us on the outdoor patio, and smiled at me and Zoey. It kind of made my day to be this close to someone so talented and inspiring. I really thought this day was going to be the best, but it took a turn for the worse.

A few weeks before our trip we had a terrible scare with Barrett being diagnosed with asthma. Our doctor suggested we take his new breathing machine just in case while on our trip, and thank goodness we did. The night of the luau, Barrett was trying to keep up with the big kids and ran around with them the whole night. I noticed he wasn't able to keep up and would stop and just walk quite a bit. I'm a natural worrier, specifically about Barrett for some reason, and I just knew he wasn't himself.

He seemed okay that morning, so after breakfast we headed to the pool. I realized I forgot my sunglasses up in the room and we needed to find a puddle jumper lifejacket for B. We left it at home....right on the couch! B and I walked around the shops at the hotel looking, then headed up to the room to get my sunglasses. We were just about to head back down to the pool when I noticed his breathing was labored. He also didn't look good at all. I had him lie down and watched his throat and chest and just knew he was having an asthma flare. After no improvement with a breathing treatment I called his doctor. We ended up in Urgent Care for hours! After more breathing treatments and steroids we finally got to come back to the hotel. We picked Zoey up and went to lunch for a little normalcy. We immediately went back to the room for another breathing treatment and for naps. Mom and Gran watched the kids that night so we could get away for a few hours for some much needed time to ourselves. We soaked in the hottub then headed out to have a dinner date.

That night, I sat in complete silence in the layout chair looking up at the swaying palm trees while Steven got us drinks. This small moment was huge. All of the work of traveling with two littles and worrying about my sweet B and his breathing just washed away. I felt so unbelievably lucky to be laying there in Maui at one of the most gorgeous hotels, with my favorite person in the whole world.

Waiting to be seated for breakfast

Poor baby

This nurse asked us if he could read Barrett a story while he did his treatment. He was AMAZING!

Jaime watched Zoey for us while we were at the doctor, and Collin is the sweetest cousin ever! He loved on her like this the whole trip :)
