Two Months

Our sweet Zoey girl is two months old! She really hasn't changed much other than being a little more aware and smiling. Her tummy issues are mostly resolved. We have maybe an hour at night where she is fussy, but the rest of the day she is a complete angel. I never knew a baby could be so calm and just fall asleep when they are tired. Barrett & Zoey seem to be complete opposites as far as personality, and it's honestly a relief to have a baby that just goes with the flow :)

These are the days...

Age:  two months
Weight: 11.6 lbsHeight:
Head Circumference:
Eye color: No idea! They look different everyday. They have looked dark blue, hazel, dark green, brown...so who knows?
Clothes: Still mostly newborn but moving up to 3 months. She seems chunky to us bc Barrett was always so skinny, but she really is a tiny baby.
Diapers: size one
Milestones: She will follow objects with her eyes now and has started to smile more.
Sleeping: She won't sleep on my chest anymore, and seems more comfortable on her back (opposite of Bear). She has started sleeping in her rock-n-play and has moved up to 4-5 hour stretches at a time. Now if only Steven and I would go to sleep when she does we would actually get sleep!
Eating: She is solely on Nutramigen formula. Her stool tests showed a probable milk protein allergy so I stopped giving her breastmilk and switched to Nutramigen and it was a night and day difference in her tummy issues.
Activities: She is happy doing anything really. When she cries she either wants to be held and talked to, swing in the mamaroo, her paci, or just to lay flat under her spinning mobile.
Favorite things: Mommy, Daddy, and big brother Barrett ;)

Six Weeks

Turning six weeks old calls for a fun photo session :) She's changing every day, and is really starting to look at me like she knows me. I even caught her first awake smile/smirk looking right at me. She is sleeping 3-4 hours at a time, and I'm pretty sure she is the sweetest baby in the world!

One Month New

Zoey's first month flew by! She is a sweet little baby and even with her tummy issues, she's calm. When she's hungry and has to wait too long, she can definitely get loud, but I think it's the sweetest thing that during the middle of the night it takes a while for me to fully wake up because she's so quiet and calm when she is telling me she's hungry. Most nights, she won't scream/cry at all. Not even during diaper changes or me putting her down fully awake to wash my hands. The hardest part has been her straining about her tummy pain. She has a gas issue and we are still trying to figure it out. It's frustrating and heartbreaking to see her in pain, but her personality has made it easier on us.

We had fun taking her first monthly pictures, and I loved having a little partner the whole time :) Once I mentioned taking pictures, Barrett was so excited he ran to her room, jumped in her chair and begged me to put her beside him. He's such a good big brother already!

Barrett & Zoey. I didn't think they looked alike at all until I saw this.

Age:  one month
Weight:
Height:
Head Circumference:
Eye color: Still some blue, but looking hazel
Clothes: She finally fits into her newborn clothes
Diapers: newborn
Milestones: The biggest milestone has been gaining weight and getting back up to her birth weight at her two week appointment. She went from 6 lbs 8 oz down to 5 lbs 12 oz and was the tiniest baby! We were so happy she started gaining weight, and now she is starting to fill out her newborn clothes. She is also starting to really make eye contact. She is very strong like her brother was and has been able to raise her head up and move it from side to side while on her tummy since she was less than a week old. She's also great at busting out of her swaddles :)
Sleeping:  Her sleeping has been way better than Barrett's at this age. Since birth, she's slept in three hour stretches pretty consistently and has even slept a five hour stretch and a few four hour stretches! Even though I'm super tired, I feel pretty lucky she is sleeping like she is because I know how much worse it can be. She sleeps the best laying on my chest, and is also sleeping in her nap nanny in between us. We are going to try new swaddles and laying her flat this weekend.
Eating: Breastfeeding is going much better this time around. With Barrett, the pain never got better. It still hurts when she latches but the pain goes away pretty quickly. The pain is better, but the emotional part is harder. I don't like breastfeeding as much and I think it's because it takes me away from playing with Barrett. We have supplemented formula a few times, but are back to exclusive breast milk. She has the same tummy issues Barrett had, but I'm going to stick with breastfeeding for now.
Activities: Eating, sleeping, and trying anything and everything to help her tummy- we bounce up and down a lot and do the bicycle with her legs and it seems to help.
Favorite things: I like to think her favorite thing is when Barrett talks to her. His constant attention to his baby sister is sweet :)

Firsts

Our first few weeks as a family of four has honestly been a dream...a sleepless dream, but so much better than we anticipated. We were prepared for the worst, so we feel extremely lucky to have such a sweet baby girl who fits into our family perfectly.

I always love looking back at those sleepy pictures from the first couple of weeks with Barrett, so here are a few of my favorites with Zoey.

One of the many toys Barrett has brought to her :)

Barrett loves her and has shown no signs of jealousy. At eight days old, she had her first little photo shoot with big brother, and it melted my heart to watch how sweet Barrett was with his baby sister.

At nine days old, she had her first bath. She still had her umbilical cord, so it was just a small sponge bath, and the cord actually fell off right after this!

First Doctor Appointments

We took Zoey to her first doctor appointment at just three days old. Everything went great except that she had lost more weight and was down to 5 lbs 12 oz. If babies drop more than 10% of their body weight, they need to be supplemented with formula. She was right at 10% so we had to bring her in a few days later for a weight check. Thankfully, she was up to 6 lbs 3 oz and we didn't have to supplement.

I love this picture because we have a picture of Barrett in his car seat at his first appointment and he has one eye open just like this!

That is a burp cloth on top of her blanket and it's bigger than she is!

Her second appointment at one week old

At her two week check-up she was up to 6 lbs 9 oz, and we got the green light to let her sleep as long as she will now that she is above her birth weight. I can't even believe we are lucky enough to even worry about this, because Barrett never slept for more than two hours at this point. At around two weeks old she slept for five hours straight one night! At two weeks old she is in the 8th percent for weight, 30th percentile for height, and 47th for head circumference. Teeny tiny, sweet baby girl!

Bringing Zoey Home

We were so excited to bring our sweet baby girl home and to get our new life started as a family of four! Here are some sweet pictures of Zoey from our stay in the hospital and the day we brought her home.
