Five Months

It's hard to believe that our precious baby boy is five months old! It seems like he is growing and changing by the day. He has the sweetest personality and will smile at anyone who talks to him. He is usually happy and content, will play with his moose and his mobile on his play mat, and LOVES to be talked and sang to. When he is hungry, tired, or wanting more attention he is not shy about letting us know. He is very vocal and will not relent until he gets his bottle or nap. I can already tell he is going to be strong willed with a very sweet heart :)

Age:  Five months
Weight: He weighed 14 pounds (11th percentile) at his four month check-up.
Height: 26 inches (87th percentile) at four month check-up. We don't go back until six months.
Eye color: Still different colors depending on the light. They are noticeably more brown now.
Clothes:  Still wearing mostly 3-6 months.
Diapers: Size three and we've changed from Pampers swaddlers to Pampers cruisers.
Milestones: He is easily rolling over both ways now. The biggest change this month has been tummy time. He is finally content on his tummy and will actually play and reach for things while laying on his tummy. The other day he tried to scoot to a toy in front of him so I'm thinking he will be crawling within the next couple of months. Seeing  such a drastic change this month is kind of bittersweet because I'm realizing he isn't going to be my tiny baby forever. I'm definitely soaking up these precious moments of him completely relying on me for everything. He definitely knows who his mommy and daddy are and will smile from ear to ear at us. He is also using his hands for everything now. He reaches for toys and can even hold his bottle by himself (but he also likes to put his hands behind his head and make mommy hold the bottle, and I don't mind one bit!). He has started to really stare at us when we eat and drink and will try to grab my drinks. We will give him his little bath cup during bath time and will immediately put it up to his mouth. He is putting EVERYTHING in his mouth now so I make sure everything in his reach is clean. Another new interest is playing with his feet, especially if he's barefooted. When we change his diaper he holds his legs back and plays with his feet- it's pretty hilarious. Even when we put him in his swing he just pulls his legs up and really concentrates on his feet. He even put his foot in his mouth the other day!
Sleeping:  Barrett is officially sleeping in his crib! He was still waking up a lot so because his room is so far away and upstairs, we moved his crib into our bedroom. This was the best decision because he is now comfortable in his crib and we don't have to run up and down the stairs in the middle of the night. He finally slept through the night for the first time this month and has become a decent sleeper. He still has his nights where he will wake up 2-3 times for his paci, but most nights he will only fuss once or twice and if he fully wakes up it's usually around 4:45. We just put his paci in and move him to the center of the crib and he will go back to sleep until 7-8. Being able to roll onto his tummy has enabled him to sleep better. We lay him down on his back and he will roll on his tummy and pass out. He usually scoots himself into the corner of his crib and will toss and turn through the night. This new sleeping schedule has brought so much relief  and so much more sleep for us too :)
Eating: Still solely on Nutramigen formula. Our doctor recommends waiting until he is six months old until we start him on anything other than formula. I am very ready to start giving him solids and rice cereal, but I guess I'll wait one more month. I have a strong feeling that he is going to love everything like his mommy. We have given him tylenol a few times and he pulled the syringe further into his mouth like he couldn't get enough and he did the same thing with his oral vaccine.
Activities: Singing the alphabet and a bushel and a peck always puts a big smile on his face. He loves when I sing to him and to be tickled. He still loves his play mat, mommaroo swing, and peek a boo. He is very interested in some of his new toys he got for Christmas now too, especially the toys that light up. Bath time is definitely one of his favorite activities. He is still in his baby tub and likes to play with his rubber ducky and kick and wiggle the whole time. He especially loves it when mommy and daddy bathe him together.
Favorite things: Barrett's favorite toy is his moose. He is so intrigued by that little thing! We take it everywhere we go now and he is so happy strolling and playing with moose. We let him sleep in between us in the nap nanny the other night because he was stopped up (or that was my excuse...really, I just love for him to be so close) and he woke up that morning and just started playing with moose for a good 10 minutes before making a peep. My favorite thing is him napping on my chest. I absolutely cherish this part of being his mommy. I also love that his hair is mostly growing on the top of his head- he's trying really hard to grow a mohawk.
