Barrett Lately

Lately, I feel like things are never going to settle down so I've been trying hard to just enjoy the chaos and soak up the time we have with Barrett as our only child. Barrett is a very strong-willed child and extremely passionate. Happy, sad, mad, loving, scared...no matter what emotion he is feeling, he expresses it to the full extent. Even though his bad moments can be overwhelming, I absolutely love and appreciate the fight he has within him. Barrett is just as passionate when he is happy. When he loves, it is overwhelming in the best way. This week in particular he has been the sweetest little boy. He's hardly thrown fits and I've enjoyed every second of our long nighttime routines. Here is what our nights look like the three-year-old Barrett.

We have dinner around 6:30-7:00 and set a timer on one of our phones while he plays and watches a movie (lately it's Star Wars). Setting timers has been the best thing we've ever done for both us and Barrett. We went through a time where it was a fight to get him to do anything we wanted him to do around nap or bedtime. We started using timers and it is like magic. Once the timer goes off, it's bath time. After bath, he always wants to play for a little bit longer or watch his movie so we set another timer. Once this one goes off, it's time for brushing teeth and picking out books to read. If both of us are home, he picks who he wants to do his routine. This week it's been Mommy :) One of his favorite books right now is Skeleton For Dinner, and he has almost every word memorized. We've also been reading Star Wars, Goodnight Moon, Clifford, Goodnight Train, and he will pick random ones here and there. After books, he turns his sound machine on, nightlight on, and his big light off and wants to do it all himself. He then insists on me laying down with him and snuggling. Snuggling and talking with him at night are the moments I know I'm going to miss deeply one day. He talks or sings himself to sleep every night and will sometimes talk to his stuffed animals for over an hour before falling asleep.

Snuggling

One of our first breakfasts together at the new house

He eats more than me 8 months pregnant

He couldn't wait for me to come see this :)

He cracks himself up

He woke up from his nap and wanted to sit in my lap for a long time.
