We had his one year check-up and the doctor said his development is great! There really isn't anything better than being reassured your baby is healthy. We are going to start weaning him from the paci when we get back from our California vacation this month. Our doctor said pacis are fine until 18 months. Saying we are not looking forward to this is an understatement...it's going to be horrible! Hopefully for only three days though; apparently, the horrible-ness only lasts for three days then they forget. Pray for us! We have also started to wean him from his formula and giving him a bottle so often. We are also waiting until after vacation so that his routine isn't completely screwed up all at once. Here are pictures of his last update with his monthly onesies! My baby is growing up!
Here is Barrett at one month and one year. I can't believe how much he has changed!
Age: 12 Months
Weight: 21.8 pounds (57th percentile)
Height: 30 3/4 in. (81st percentile)
Weight: 21.8 pounds (57th percentile)
Height: 30 3/4 in. (81st percentile)
Eye color: Mostly brown
Clothes: 12 months
Diapers: Size four Pampers Cruisers
Milestones: He has four teeth so far, but I think more are on there way. I actually love him just having those two little teeth on bottom, but I guess I'll have to let go of him being a baby :( He took his first step!!! The day before he turned one he took a tiny little step in front of me and my sister. She started freaking out and I almost cried. He did it again later in front of my mom and I got teary eyed again. I think he is going to take off any day now, but I'm definitely not pushing it. He will say Ash Ash (without the sh sound), dada, quack quack, and will repeat all kinds of silly sounds. He tries to repeat "good girl" when we take Sophie outside and she does her business and "thank you". I have been trying to get him to say duck for months (no luck) and the first time I said quack quack he repeated it. I think he likes sounds better than words. He will wave, put his arms up, and dance. When we ask him to repeat a word that he can't say you can see it on his face that he is concerned. He will whisper or move his mouth without any sound and he even got upset with Steven when he kept asking him to say something that he couldn't. He gets very happy and proud when he repeats the little words that he knows and it is so sweet!

Sleeping: His sleeping has changed the last couple of weeks. He is going to bed closer to 8:00 now and sleeping until 7:30. He even slept until 7:55 one morning! His naps have also moved to 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.
Eating: He is a great eater so far, and I hope this continues through the toddler years! His favorite foods are strawberries, bananas, avocados, rice and beans, green beans, and puffs. He will bounce up and down when he is excited about his food. When we go to restaurants I just have to prepare myself that once I start giving him food, he will not stop eating and will get aggravated when he doesn't have enough food in front of him. I usually spend most of the time tearing up pieces of food for him while we are at restaurants unless someone else catches his attention. He is definitely a people watcher and likes to study the people around him...he gets that from his Pops. His snacks consist of fruit packs (the little packs you can buy in any grocery store that they can suck on- they even have packs that contain actual meals with chicken!), fresh fruit, puffs, or cheerios- he is starting to get way more excited about cheerios than puffs, but that is no surprise because cheerios taste way better. He has also tried crackers and loves them.
Activities: Exploring! He is on the go pretty much all day. Every once in a while he will stay in one room and get really serious about his toys. We do these flash cards and flip books that have words on the front and you flip the page to see the picture and he LOVES it! If he starts to throw a fit or seems bored, we will get these cards out and he immediately gets excited. My sister also got him these baby babble dvds and it was the first show on tv that he actually sat and watched for more than a few minutes. He is usually way too busy for that. I am officially ready for Fall weather. I am a complete Summer girl, but these 100 degree days are way too hot to do activities outside with Barrett other than get in the pool. I am so looking forward to walks outside and just playing outside. He gets excited when we go outside for a few minutes with Sophie so I know he is looking forward to all the outdoor activities too. He loves to dance and is starting to like Mickey Mouse. We cannot wait for Disneyland in a few weeks!

Favorite Things: One of his favorite things is his bear chair in his room. We tell him to give it hugs and kisses and he crawls as fast as he can and hugs it and lays on it. He also loves stuffed animals and will hug them and rock when he first picks one up. His favorite book is Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton. We read it every day and the other day he wanted me to read it twice in a row before he went to bed. His favorite part is the whisper part toward the end. When I start to whisper he turns around with the biggest smile and hugs me (and I completely melt). Another favorite thing is eating. I really think he would eat all day if I let him. If I say eat or hungry he will smack his lips and get excited. He talks all day long, so I think talking is one of his favorite things...he is definitely going to give us an ear full when he can actually have conversations and I can't wait to hear what he has to say!
The past 12 months have been full of hope, joy, and unconditional love I had never felt before him. I can't believe we have such an amazing little soul in our lives. I feel beyond blessed he chose us to be his parents and am loving every minute of this baby/toddler stage.
