One month

My baby is already one month old! Now I understand how parents feel when they say their babies grow up too fast. He is only one month old, but I have already cried when looking back at the pictures from the hospital. He has grown so much! I want to document his milestones and all the little things that he does in his first year so I am going to do a monthly survey kind of like I did with the pregnancy.

This is how he initially felt about taking his one month pictures.

Age: One month
Weight:
Height:
Eye color: Dark blue. I think the center of his eyes have lightened up a little and they look kind of a grayish, dark blue now.
Clothes: He is still wearing mostly newborn sized clothes.
Diapers: Still in newborn size
Milestones: When he is on his tummy, he will raise his head up and will sometimes push up even more on his hands. When he was four weeks old, I put him on his tummy for some tummy time and he immediately rolled on his side. He is also starting to make more eye contact.
Seeping: Our little Barrett bear is not the greatest sleeper. This has by far been the hardest part of having a baby...not the pregnancy, not the contractions or giving birth naturally, not even breastfeeding through mastitis. I never knew the meaning of tired until now. He usually sleeps for two hours at a time and at around 6:00 am he is ready to get up for the day and then naps around noon. Last night he decided to get up every hour to eat so there was no sleeping for me. Hopefully he will start sleeping longer at night very soon!
Eating: He is starting to fall asleep every time he eats during the night, but if we give him a bottle he will stay awake and eat longer. I think I am going to start pumping at night so he will eat enough to sleep a little longer. My plan was to breastfeed for a year, but now I am just hoping to make it to six months. I am envious of the moms who like breastfeeding. As of now I am not a fan and it HURTS! I know it is the best thing for Barrett though so I am going to stick with it and just pray it gets better with time.
Activities: Since we brought him home from the hospital we have been reading him books at night. We want to make this an every night thing because he really likes it. He has even stopped crying a few times when we started reading him a story.
Favorite things: His favorite things right now are definitely eating and falling asleep on my chest. I love that he feels so safe and happy in his mommy's arms. One of my favorite things to do is just stare at him when he is wide awake(or really just staring at him at any time :)). There really is nothing like looking into your child's eyes as they are taking in this new world. I think Steven's favorite thing is also laying Barrett on his chest while he plays video games or fantasy football.
