A few firsts

I have been so busy being a new mommy that I am behind with posting some of our memorable moments with baby B. He is over three weeks old now but here are some pictures of his first doctor visits, his first book, his first bath, and first road trip!

We took him to his first check-up when he was six days old. He was 6 lbs 9 oz when he was born and at six days old he had already gained weight at 6lbs 12 oz! The nurse was really surprised because babies usually lose weight at first. I wasn't shocked at all because he LOVES to eat :) He did so good at the appointment and our pediatrician really put our minds at ease. Having a newborn is really challenging and it is hard to know what is normal and if we are doing the right thing sometimes. I am a worrier and his whole first week I was constantly checking to see if he was breathing and wanted him by my side all the time. That night after our appointment was the first night Steven and I both slept while he slept.

He likes to open his left eye.

Daddy put on his Texas Rangers socks!

The picture quality is terrible, but I just had to share this. I was laying down trying to go to sleep and I looked over and saw the sweetest thing. Steven had gone up to Barrett's room and picked out the book Guess How Much I Love You  and was reading it to him while he was falling asleep in his nap nanny. This is the first time Barrett has had a book read to him, and it was by his sweet daddy! There really is nothing sweeter than this!

We gave him his first sponge bath when he was nine days old and it was definitely a moment we will never forget! My mom, Ash, Jessica (Steven's sis), and Gran were all at the house and they took video and pictures of the whole thing. We wrapped him in the cutest little towel that Aunt Shirley got him and were ready to get started. Steven was worried he was going to pee on him and half-way through the bath he pooped! It was everywhere and we couldn't do anything but laugh! We cleaned him up, changed towels, and finished the bath. Barrett did great until we turned him on his stomach to wash his bottom...he was not a fan!

At 17 days old we went on a weekend trip to Tyler, TX for Clint's (Steven's step-brother) wedding. Our pediatrician recommended keeping him at home and away from public places until he is at least two months old, so we debated on whether or not he and I should have gone. We decided to all go and Barrett and I just stayed in our hotel room the whole weekend. It was actually really relaxing and nice to get out of our house. The road trip wasn't bad at all; we had to stop on the way there and back once to feed and change him. The hardest part was packing everything. Who knew such a tiny little baby would need so much stuff for one weekend! It seriously took us three hours to get everything together and get out of the door! We will have to be more organized next time we plan a trip. Before the trip we had his two week check-up. Everything went great and he already weighed 8 lbs 3 oz!!
